The Grimsby Public Art Gallery seeks a well-organized, motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Summer Studio Instructor. The Summer Studio Instructor will be responsible for developing and running the summer children’s programs at the gallery. The ideal candidate will be an experienced art instructor/ practicing artist with a strong desire to work with children. He/she will be highly motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and well organized. The incumbent must have good understanding of both contemporary and historic visual arts and experience with a variety of media.   Previous experience delivering hands-on activities for children in a gallery or museum educational programming setting would be a strong asset. Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to maintain confidential information and computer literacy are expected.
Reporting to the Education Coordinator, the ideal candidate will have a least some post secondary training in visual arts, art history or museum studies. S/he will have experience working with a variety of art media as well as experience working with children. Fluency in English is required, a basic knowledge of French is an asset. Basic computer skills are required and familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher, as well as the ability to learn other programs quickly, would be helpful. Successful candidates will be expected to complete required Town of Grimsby Health and Safety training and provide a Police check for working with Vulnerable persons
