Annual Book Arts Fair
Saturday, April 29
The first Grimsby Wayzgoose was a small gathering of friends and colleagues that attracted about 300 visitors. Since then the goose has grown into an eagerly awaited annual event with regular participants and visitors coming from across Ontario, Quebec and the North Eastern states. Every year, on the last Saturday in April, letterpress printers, printmakers, paper makers, bookbinders and more, gather at the gallery to share their love of the bookarts with the public and colleagues alike. Many exquisite items are available for sale, but the spirit of camaraderie is more important than financial gain for these practitioners.
The Wayzgoose Anthology has been part of the tradition since 1981. Sections, known as signatures, are hand bound into a highly collectable volume. Produced in an edition of only 115 copies, the Anthology is an original and lasting keepsake and also a means by which private presses that cannot come to Grimsby for the event are able to have a presence. Anthologies are $80 each; sales help to offset the costs associated with Wayzgoose. The 2017 Anthology will be launched on the 29th; many back issues are also available.
Wayzgoose provides a wonderful opportunity to experience first-hand the traditions that turned us into a literate society. We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones on Saturday, April 29th.
