Canada 150 - Square Roots Project!

The whole country will be celebrating in 2017 and so will Grimsby! Part of Canada’s theme for the our Sesquicentennial focuses on diversity and inclusion. To embrace that theme, the Town of Grimsby’s Heritage Advisory Committee has decided not to hold an art competition with judges, awards and ribbons this year, instead every submission will be included!

Grimsby residents or anyone affiliated with a Grimsby churches, schools, organizations or clubs, can register to receive one, 8”X8”X1" thick basswood square to create your art piece. Each participant must register individually. Express what you love about Canada and why you are proud to be Canadian!

Each completed square will be unique ... just like all of us! Then every single square will be brought together to composed a colourful, community-created masterpiece that will be unveiled and celebrated, February 19, 2017 at the Grimsby Public Art Gallery.

Deadline for completed submissions is February 3, 2017.
Art will remain on exhibit throughout March, 2017 and then our goal is to find a permanent public home for The Square Roots Project!
You can choose to include something significant that Grimsby has contributed to Canada or focus on all Canadian heritage. This is something that will leave a lasting impression, so take some time think about these questions, discuss it with family and friends. What each of you deems meaningful, will vary,  which is why this such a compelling project!

All ages and skill levels, amateur and professional artists, are invited to participate.

We are excited to see what each of you will create!

THEN PRINT OUT YOUR TICKET AND PRESENT AT THE GPAG.  Please note that the Squares are not yet available.  We will make another post when they are ready for pick-up.  You can still bring your ticket before then and have your name recorded on our list, or you may choose to wait to pick up an actual Square.
