Summer Studio Instructor

Wage: $12.25 per hour
Start date: June 6, 2016
End date: September 2, 2016

The Grimsby Public Art Gallery seeks a well-organized, motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Summer Studio Instructor. The Summer Studio Instructor will be responsible for developing and running the summer children’s programs at the gallery and for helping to plan educational programs for the upcoming school year. The ideal candidate will have a least some post secondary training in visual arts, art history or museum studies. S/he will have experience working with a variety of art media as well as experience working with children. Fluency in English is required, a basic knowledge of French is an asset. Basic computer skills are required and familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher, as well as the ability to learn other programs quickly, would be helpful. Curatorial Assistant

12 Week Position

The Grimsby Public Art Gallery seeks a well-organized, motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Curatorial Assistant. The Curatorial Assistant, supervised by the Gallery Director, will primarily work with the Permanent Collection and temporary art exhibitions at the gallery. Tasks will include examining and inventorying artwork; updating documentation; research on relevant art and artists; preparing and delivering brief public presentations of this material and curating an exhibition. The ideal candidate will have some post-secondary training in visual arts, art history, museum studies and/or history. S/he will have a good understanding of and the ability to recognize different art media and exhibit meticulous attention to detail in his/her work. Flexibility is essential, as is the ability to work efficiently both as part of a team and independently. Solid computer skills are required and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as the ability to learn other programs quickly, would be helpful.
