Threadworks 2013: Water - Opening this Sunday!

Threadworks 2013: Water

July 17 - August 30

Opening Reception: Sunday July 19, 2-4pm

Threadworks: Water is a project of the Ontario Network of Needleworkers in association with the Wellington County Museum and Archives. This tri-annual juried exhibition was organized and first exhibited at the Wellington County Museum and has been travelling across Ontario for the better part of three years. Grimsby is one of the last stops on the exhibition tour.
The competition attracted 170 entries from across Canada. Jurors Judy Martin, William Hodge and Sylvia Naylor selected 59 of these to be included in the exhibition;
most have continued to travel with the show.
The Niagara Region is well represented with works by Dianne Gibson of Fonthill, Wendy Anderson Breedveld from Niagara on the Lake and the grand prize winning piece, Waves and Flowers by Patricia Menon, also of Font Hill. Menon’s piece is a traditional kimono format, exquisitely pieced together in a range of blue and gold fabrics,
with just a touch of brilliant red to add interest and highlights.
Textile art is always very well received at GPAG. Many visitors relate to the use of fabric and the familiar formats including garments, soft sculptures and quilts at a fundamental level and with a degree of intimacy that it is difficult for traditional fine art media to approach. We look forward to hosting this intriguing exhibition.
