From Nature to Vellum: The Illuminated Orchid and the Lindisfarne Gospels

Thursday, April 17, 2014
7pm
at the Grimsby Public Art Galley and Library in the Periodical Reading Room.

Vanja Stojanovic is currently completing his Master’s degree in Art History and Visual Culture at the University of Guelph. His fields of study include the early Medieval iconography of Ireland, Scotland and England, illuminated manuscripts, stone sculpture and metalwork, as well as the monastic space, the insular desert and the medieval mind. His talk considers how a seemingly decorative manuscript motif may reveal the quiet significance of the symbolic orchid flower in early Christian iconography.
