Join us November 22, 2013 for A Musical Journey through Grimsby Park!

Join us Friday, November 22, 2013 from 7-9pm for A Musical Journey through Grimsby Park!

A Musical Journey through Grimsby Park is an evening of Art and Music featuring George Brasovan and Tricia Cole, who perform professionally as Gin and Tonic.

George Brasovan is a Juno award nominee, a composer for motion pictures, and a multi-instrumentalist and teacher.  In 1999 George was the Recipient of the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence.

Tricia Cole has been singing and performing since the age of 10, and has been cast in Garden City Productions' Guys and Dolls and Anything Goes.

As Gin & Tonic, George and Tricia have performed everything from jazz standards to pop hits, from timeless classical pieces to world music.

A Musical Journey through Grimsby Park will be inspired by our current exhibition, The Chautauqua Experience. George and Tricia will bring both the artwork and Grimsby’s history alive with their unique interpretations of the music that could have been enjoyed by people summering at Grimsby Park in the early 1900’s.  This concert will also be an important fundraiser for the Grimsby Public Art Gallery; all proceeds will support upcoming Educational programs.

Tickets are only $20, and are on sale now at the Grimsby Public Art Gallery. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience Chautauqua through sight and sound, enriched with the splendour of Grimsby's past.

The Farm Show: Floyd Elzinga

Closing Celebration:  Sunday, November 10, 2013, 2pm – 4pm.

Floyd Elzinga is a farmer’s son who went on to grow metal flowers and plow Art Gallery floors.  Elzinga’s art is conceptual, environmentally influenced and often reflects his early life on a dairy farm. Farm Show is a ground-breaking work. It challenges viewers to consider their relationship to food production and take an active step to be stewards of the earth. It contrasts ideas of modern and urban with idyllic and rustic to create a glimpse of a dystopian future of cultivation. Farm Show evokes thoughts about the ongoing breakdown in the relationship between the natural and industrialized worlds and emphasize the enormous disconnect between the production of food and the people who consume it. It juxtaposes the traditional male fashion requirements of the office place (suit and tie) against the physical labour so necessary and prevalent in traditional farming practices. Elzinga is drawn to explore, highlight, and create objects and ideas that embody polar opposites and as a result dualist themes are often present in his work.
Floyd Elzinga is a graduate of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design where he completed a Bachelor of Fine Art with a major in Sculpture and minor in Art History.
