Beasties in the Garden

Beasties in the Garden is a community art project featuring a large garden sculpture in the Grimsby Public Library’s Reading Garden.  The sculpture is a fantasy creature; a giant hot pink, three-eyed octopus to be exact!  The sculpture is on display at the same time as the exhibition Flights of Fancy in the main gallery. Flights of Fancy features art with marvellous and mythical subject matter including angels, dragons and dinosaur painters.
The beast was created by high school students with the guidance of artist-mentors. The team worked together to design concepts before construction.  This was an ideal opportunity for students to speak with artists who have had post secondary training and shown their work professionally.

We had so much fun making it that we are hoping to make this an annual community project!
Thanks to all the participants for their hard work and dedication!
This Community Project was made possible through the generosity of the Niagara Community Foundation and the Rotary Club of Grimsby

The Grimsby Public Art Gallery gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Niagara Community Foundation, which is a public foundation serving the people of Niagara.
